Upcoming Race – Run for the Ribbons

Run for the Ribbons
The next race in the Sandhills Race Series is the Run for the Ribbons 5k & Family Fun 1k on Saturday, April 6, 2013. The race will be held at Carolina Horse Park, 2814 Montrose Road Raeford, NC 28376. The race is in conjunction with the 62nd Stoneybrook Steeplechase, and supports FirstHealth of the Carolinas’ Cancer CARE Fund.

Basic Race Information

The 5k will start at 9 am, and the 1k will follow at 10:30. Know that the race course is similar to a trail and will be through the grass and woods near the Steeplechase track. Refreshments will follow.

Runners are encouraged to participate in honor of family or friends who have been affected by cancer. The ‘ribbons’ are colorful representations of hope for different types of cancers that have affected those in the Sandhills.

Tips from SRS

  • Make sure to register by Sunday, March 31, to save $5 on your registration fee! The easiest way to register is through active.com
  • It’s best to get to any race early, especially if you still need to pick up your packet. Packets will be available for pickup as early as Friday, April 5 from 5-7 pm at FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness in Pinehurst. Carolina Horse Park will open at 7 am on race day for those who wait til the morning of.
  • You won’t want to miss the 1k race’s starting line remarks, with a dedication, warm-up by FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness-Southern Pines Cancer Wellness Program, and a survivor recognition salute. This is scheduled to start at 10:15 am.
  • Please note, as per the Run for the Ribbons website, that no strollers or bicycles are allowed due to the uneven terrain. With that said, inexperienced trail runners will want to watch out for tree roots in wooded areas!
  • No dogs or other pets are allowed, either.
  • All participants will be granted general admission and parking pass to the Steeplechase, however, it doesn’t start until 1:30 pm, so pack a lunch and be prepared to spend the afternoon at this family friendly event!

Overall, the Run for the Ribbons should be a full day’s worth of fun for a great cause! Hopefully the cold weather will clear out and race day will be sunny and warm! Please check The Run for the Ribbons main site for all additional information. Looking forward to seeing you there!
