Post Race – Turkey Trot | Half Marathon, 10k, 5k, 1 Mile Run

The predicted bad weather held off for the 33rd annual Turkey Trot in Pinehurst.  Over 1100 runners participated in the 2013 Turkey Trot benefitting the Foundation of FirstHealth.  The Turkey Trot began with a 1 mile fun run followed by the half marathon.  There were 393 timed finishers in the half marathon that wound through the streets of Pinehurst and around Pinehurst Lake.  The 5k and 10k began together at Cannon Park in Pinehurst with 717 timed participants.

After the race snacks and beverages were given to the runners and there was also a bounce house for children.  Awards were given to Super Gobblers, runners nominated for overcoming challenges, as well as awards for overall fastest in their respective race as well as fastest by age group.

Chad Ware, 29, of Raeford won the overall half marathon for men with a tag time of 1:12 and the overall female winner was Tana Kornachuk, 34, of Whispering Pines with a tag time of 1:24.  Kornachuk is a repeat winner having won fastest overall female in the 2012 half marathon with a time of 1:26.

The winning time for the 10k was 33:53 belonging to Wilson Pearson, 18, of Pinebluff.  Another 18-year-old, Abby Clup of West End, won the overall female 10k with a time of 39:31.  Pearson beat his winning 10k time in 2012 by 2:77.

Winning the overall 5k was repeat winner Matthew Harmondy, 17, of Southern Pines with a tag time of 16:39.  Emily Potter, 34, of Southern Pines won the overall female 5k with a tag time of 18:36.
