The Reindeer Fun Run posted record numbers in its 7th year with 2,501 registrants.  Runners from 11 different states came out to the race despite the drizzle and predicted rain showers.  Santa was on hand to give out high fives to participants.  A bagpiper, several elves, and even a reindeer were spotted along the course that toured through historic downtown Aberdeen.

There were between 400-500 runners registered for the 12ks of Christmas, the most in the history of the race.  Will Pearson of Pinebluff won the overall 12k with a chip time of 42:31 and Emily Potter of Southern Pines won the female 12k with a chip time of 46:21.  The 12k course wound through downtown Aberdeen, continued through Bethesda and the Malcolm Blue Farm, and rejoined the 5k route in the last mile.

Michael Moore of Southern Pines was the repeat overall winner of the 5k with a chip time of 17:17.  Lindsay Quigg of Sanford won the overall female 5k with a chip time of 21:30.  After the 12k and 5k were over the Chick-Fil-A Egg Nog Jog was held.  There were running groups from all over at the Reindeer Fun Run including groups from Pinehurst Elementary, Episcopal Day School, Southern Pines Elementary, John Paul II and the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Sandhills.

Rudolph hosted an after party for the runners complete with food, drinks, pony rides and games for children.  All proceeds from this event went to the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Sandhills.

The rain played some tricks on chip timing and Precision Racing is working on getting all official results posted.  Current results can be found here.  If you see any issues please ask for a fix.

The Reindeer Fun Run was the last event in the fall series of the Sandhills Race Series.  Stay tuned for updates on our spring series which will include:  Mardi Gras Miles, ShamRock n’ Roll, Run for the Ribbons, and Run for the Buddies and more!  For updates visit our website.  Thank you to all of our sponsors, runners, and volunteers that made the fall series possible.
